In the mid-1950s, Alexander Girard designed the interior of the legendary Miller House in Columbus, Indiana.

He added an intimate and warm atmosphere to the bright and airy rooms by interspersing the Miller family's art collection with folk art and a wide range of commissioned objects.

At the heart of the house was the so-called 'conversation pit' - a sunken lounge with built-in seating.

The surrounding sofas contained a multitude of colourful cushions that changed with the seasons, and in the centre of the living room was its centrepiece: the Flower Table.
