Carl Hansen founded the Danish family company of the same name in 1908. Originally a garment workshop, the company soon began to handle custom furniture production as well. Thanks to the quality hand craftsmanship, the company switched to small-scale mass production of the most popular pieces. By the mid-1940s, the company was working with Danish architect Frits Henningsen, whose Windsor chair collection was created. During the same period, they approached up-and-coming designer Hans J. Wegner, whose collaboration brought the company increased interest in his timeless designs. Many of the designs are now considered icons of Danish modernism, such as the legendary Wishbone chairs. Other renowned designers include Kaare Klint, Mogens Koch and Ole Wanscher. Today, Carl Hansen produces tables, chairs, armchairs, sofas as well as office and children's furniture and collaborates with designers such as Strand & Hvass and Thomas Bo Kastholm, son of the famous Jorgen Kastholm. The focus is on quality workmanship, traditional craftsmanship, materials and sustainable design.
