Realisation: the Sovova Residence
The Sovova Residence: A Delicate Fusion of History and Modern Living
The Sovova Residence demonstrates how a timeless interior can be created when respect for historic architecture meets a modern approach to living. The building, constructed in 1909 and now a listed historic landmark, has undergone a complete renovation. The goal was to preserve its distinctive architectural character while offering comfortable, functional, and sustainable rental housing.
One of the main principles of the renovation was to retain authentic elements and complement them with contemporary materials that look natural and do not overwhelm the atmosphere of the house. “When designing a modern interior for a historic building, it is essential to respect the original architectural details and avoid interventions that would disrupt the spatial or aesthetic continuity—for example, in the facades, staircases, or interior layout. On the contrary, it is necessary to adhere to the principles of harmonious composition, where contemporary materials, color accents, and improved layouts complement the historical structure and connect the past with the present,” explains Aneta Rybníčková of KYZLINK ARCHITECTS.
A distinctive feature of the interior is the use of natural materials. Solid wood brings warmth, texture, and long-term durability to the space, while glass surfaces add lightness and help illuminate the interior. The overall impression thus rests on a balance between tradition and contemporary design.
As part of the project, we supplied the residence with a wide selection of furniture from our portfolio—dining and conference tables, sofas, chairs, and other accessories. Individual elements were selected to support the overall interior concept and help create a home that feels elegant, functional, and authentic.
